Open Editions
And why I never thought I'd do them
Small batch. Limited editions. One of a kind. These phrases aren't just descriptors — they're core values of Three Birch Hill. An open edition? Never something I imagined offering.
Then something changed my mind.
I was approached by the online stationer Quill & Pigeon to create a line of greeting cards. They were moved by my paintings and cyanotypes and felt their clients would truly connect with my work. It was flattering — but there was an immediate challenge: every piece I make is limited edition, which made a card collection seem impossible.
But Quill & Pigeon isn't about mass production or volume sales. They're about affordable art, supporting primarily New England-based artists, and reviving the arguably lost art of tangible correspondence. Those are values that align deeply with Three Birch Hill.
So rather than declining, I reframed the limitation as a creative challenge — and the result was a very busy, very inspired winter.
Four new paintings and five new cyanotypes comprise Three Birch Hill's first-ever collection of open-edition artworks, created expressly for our debut stationery collection. This isn't about mass production or mass consumption — it's about the gift of a handwritten letter, and the quiet joy of bringing fine art into your everyday life in a new, tangible way.
Send one to someone you love on a special occasion, or simply because. That's what Three Birch Hill is all about: the art of living beautifully, in the small moments.
I hope these bring you — and whoever receives them — a little joy.
P.S. Love a piece enough to live with it? These open-edition works can be reproduced as giclée prints in any size, including on stretched and framed canvas. Don't hesitate to reach out for a custom quote. 🤍
