A New Direction in My Art
If you've been following my Instagram, or visited me at the Country Living Fair or Handcrafted Octoberfest, you've probably noticed some new work. I wanted to tell you the story behind it.
My practice is going through a slight shift, or maybe a better word is evolution.
For years I painted real-life places: landscapes and domestic spaces drawn from the world around me. This year, I've moved toward intimate landscapes inspired by contemporary romantasy, a genre that has been a huge source of comfort and inspiration for me.
I'll admit I was a little nervous to share it. But for me, that's what art is: an interior exploration. I feel compelled to bring those quiet internal questions out of my head and into the open, where they can meet you.
I'm also trying a new way of getting my work in front of people. Until now, I've shown mostly at juried events and fairs. This year, for the first time, I've been submitting to galleries and exhibitions. It has been equal parts scary and gratifying.
That risk has already paid off. A new painting from this series, An Invitation, was selected for Ode To Them's inaugural digital exhibition, WISH, and it's on view now. You can see it here.
Stay tuned, because I'll be sharing my full artist's statement very soon.
