Economy vs. Abundance

A Birthday List

Happy Birthday to me!

I may be more tired than ever (honestly, dancing till dawn has nothing on the sustained sleeplessness of parenthood). But weirdly? I’m also having more fun than ever.

It feels like I’ve spent the past five years really leaning into what brings me joy. And now, as another year unfolds in front of me, I’m thinking about what I want to make more room for in my life.

But if I’m going to make more room for something in an already full life, that also means cutting back in other areas.

So here’s a list of things I’m scaling back on this year:

  • Streaming subscriptions / subscription-based services. No shade at all if you’ve found a subscription service that really adds value (I still have a few I love!), but I’m so over passive consumerism. And honestly, how many shows can one person watch in a month?

  • Resentment. It’s been a tough year, and somewhere along the way, I slipped into the habit of resentment — and wow, it doesn’t feel good. That’s not who I am. Life is going to keep on life-ing, so I’m focusing on building more resilience instead.

  • Received wisdom. This one’s huge in my house. As a self-betterment junkie (recovering... kind of), I’m quick to absorb advice and try to apply it — to myself, my family, my business. But I’m not everyone. And not every “life hack” is meant for me.

Instead, I’m choosing:

  • Books. My monthly book club (that I try to attend) has been such a gift. Not only am I reading more, but I get a built-in calendar date with community — something I deeply crave more of.

  • Gratitude. I gifted myself a five-year journal for the new year, and I’ve been using it for gratitude journaling. Even in just a month, I’ve noticed a seismic shift in my perspective.

  • My Own Way. (Anyone else’s kids huge Daniel Tiger fans?) I’m letting go of the need to squeeze myself into someone else’s box. I’m an individual. My methods can be, too.

I’m genuinely excited to make more room for joy this year.

What’s taking up too much space in your life right now? Wishing us all the clarity to carve out more freedom, more peace, and more contentment.
